Pastor Charles Bates began his service at Fishersville UMC on July 1, 2015. Charles is a native of Liberia; he is the 15th of 16 children. He is happily married to his lovely wife of 23 years, Mrs. Weade V. Bates (Vickie). They are blessed with three wonderful children, Valerie (Angel), Ulysses (Doc), and Shelby, and two grandchildren (Paris and Zyan).
Rev. Bates has served as a pastor in the Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church for almost 15 years. He first served the Leemont Charge on the Virginia Eastern Shore and then Galilee UMC on the Fredericksburg District.
His educational accomplishments include an undergraduate degree in accounting, a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies/Judaic Studies (BA); a Master of Divinity in Theology and Congregational Pastoral Care (M. Div); a Master of Science in Clinical Professional Counseling (MS); and he is currently a candidate for PhD in Psychology.
He loves to preach and teach. He has traveled and preached throughout the United States.
Scripturally, Pastor Bates is motivated by Paul’s letter to the Philippians: “ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13 NKJV)
